Bryce5.5 Premium render with DOF. Lens set to 0.3. After playing around with Zethara's scorpian [link] I was inspired to further experimentation with wings3D which eventually led to this six legged critter - so an insect not an achracnid like the scorpians - I think. Not that that is relavant. So then it came down to presentation. I kinda liked the metalic effect that Zethara had stuck with but I wanted something that would "describe the shape" in terms of light. Now at first I thought "light dome" but that doesn't work with metalic awfully well in my experiance. So I got to thinking about black mist. Here's the thing, the bryce sky is quite a complicated bit of kit really, but mostly just used for a back drop, however, I thought I'd try and make it do what the addition of mulitple lights will do for me by bleeding in so much mist that it creates a dramatic graded greyscale dome around my model - this is it - judge for yourself if you think it works. Showing my age I guess, I always associate red lights with robots when I suppose now everything is orientated to blue LED's? Maybe I'll try a blue lit version next... Postwork consisted of a little gamma compression in PSP7.
