Bryce5.5 Here the model (componets made in wings3D) was rendered in a matt red material and lit with a light dome (obtained from Beanzvision's now evapourated website) took about 140 plus hours of processor time - so about a week then. ^^; I then layered another render of the same scene, with reflective surfaces over this one in PSP7 to provide a little bit of white highlight via luminance. On the whole, the combination of DOF and light dome = annoyingly long render for indifferent lighting results. Still you never know unless you try...

Wow! This is really cool! I have a lot of respect for this piece, for a lot of reasons: 1) The amount of detail is incredible, including reflection in the eyes, ground, etc. 2) The way you had the background fade out of focus is just really neat looking 3) I have tried to use bryce, and I can't do Jack with it, which makes this seem even more of a daunting task. Two thumbs up! :jedi:

Absolutly impressive. ^^

This is bryce5.5 it's a lil more userfriendly that older versions thanks to the incoporation of DAZstudio it allows me to import more complex models from wings3D than I could in the bad old days of 5.1 I'm pleased you like it but I just happened to fall upon a happy combination of mist and murk that really seems to favour the eye. Thank you for your kind remarks!

DOF is probably one of the most mis-used and abused bits of kit in the 3d toolcase. A real pleasure to see it used correctly and with a degree of restraint. This a superb piece of work and well worth the week's render.

Its very, very dark in here.

Thank you, I'm pleased you think it was worth the somewhat protracted render... I've not been tempted to over use DOF myself because of the render time issues, but on the occasions that I have experimented with it I've found that it tends to have a miniturising effect on the subject materal, hence my attempts to employ it here to suggest that the model is small and delicate as opposed to some kind of lumbering death machine.

This turned out really well...I love the rich color and I think the layering of the reflective render gave this a great look...You do have a mastery of the DOF thing for sure...=D The week is over now...and your end product is worth it to us appreciaters out here! =P

I'm pleased you think so but I've got to say I have my reservations. I wanted to get the feeling that you could pick it up in one hand - but it just does not seem to have quite that quality I was searching for.

It doesn't seem huge, though...It does seem small..maybe not one hand, you're right...
